Barcelona confirm new arrival Miralem Pjanic has tested positive for Covid-19

La Liga giants Barcelona have this evening taken to social media, to announce that Miralem Pjanic has returned a positive test for Covid-19.

Pjanic-Arthur swap

Bosnian midfielder Pjanic’s surprise Camp Nou switch was confirmed late in June.

In one of the more bizarre transfer sagas of the summer thus far, Barcelona opted to bring the struggling Juventus man to Spain, in exchange for Arthur.

Italian champions Juve did fork over a fee on top of Pjanic’s signature, but, nevertheless, many viewed the deal as questionable at best on the part of the transfer chiefs in Catalunya.

Concern for Barca

Pjanic and Arthur went on to see out the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign on the books of Juventus and Barcelona respectively, with the pair only eligible to line out for their new clubs once the new season has gotten underway.

As such, with the Italian and Spanish giants set to return to pre-season training imminently, the midfield duo will soon be expected to report for medical assessment.

As outlined above, though, ahead of his arrival in Catalunya, the latest checks on the wellbeing of Pjanic have returned concerning results for Barcelona.

In a statement released a short time ago, the Blaugrana confirmed that their latest recruit has tested positive for Covid-19.

Pjanic will therefore not link up with his new teammates for the next two weeks, with the Bosnian having been forced into self-isolation:

Worryingly, Pjanic comes as the 3rd Barca player to have returned a positive Covid-19 test over the last couple of weeks, following similar diagnoses for both Samuel Umtiti and Jean-Clair Todibo.
