World of Hyatt has today launched its new global promotion (we first learned the details of this last week). The promotion is launching just a day after World of Hyatt’s previous promotion ended, so it’s great to see the continuity of promotions.
The bad news is that for most World of Hyatt members this promotion won’t be quite as generous as the previous one, though that also doesn’t come as much of a surprise.
Keep in mind that all of this complements World of Hyatt reducing elite requirements by half for 2021, meaning you can earn Globalist status with just 30 elite qualifying nights.
New World of Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion
The new World of Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion is valid for stays between March 1 and June 15, 2021. With this promotion, World of Hyatt members can earn:
2,000 bonus World of Hyatt points after every two qualifying nights; these nights don’t have to be consecutive, but rather a running tally is kept
Those with the World of Hyatt Credit Card (review) can earn 2,500 bonus World of Hyatt points after every two qualifying nights (so that’s 25% more points)
All members can earn one free night award valid at a Category 1-4 hotel after the first 10 qualifying nights during the promotion period; this will be valid for up to 180 days after issuance
There are some more things to be aware of with the Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion:
Registration is required between February 23 and May 15, 2021
The promotion is valid for stays at all Hyatt properties, participating MGM Resorts, Small Luxury Hotels of the World locations, and Lindblad Expeditions
Any stay booked directly with Hyatt, including an award stay, qualifies towards this promotion
Previously booked stays qualify, so it’s fine if you booked before the promotion period started, as long as you register prior to check-out of your first stay
There’s no limit to how many World of Hyatt bonus points you can earn
Bonus points will post two to three weeks after an eligible stay
Earn 2,000-2,500 bonus points after every two qualifying nights
Crunching the numbers on Hyatt’s new promotion
How good is the new World of Hyatt promotion? For context, I value World of Hyatt points at ~1.5 cents each. So how does the math work out on this promotion?
If you don’t have the World of Hyatt Card you can earn an average of 1,000 bonus points per night, which is like an incremental $15 return
If you do have the World of Hyatt Card you can earn an average of 1,250 bonus points per night, which is an incremental $18.75 return
That doesn’t factor in the Category 1-4 free night award after 10 qualifying nights; a Category 4 stay could cost up to 15,000 points, so that’s up to 1,500 points of extra value for the first 10 nights (but some discount should be applied to that valuation)
All of this is in addition to the usual opportunities to earn World of Hyatt points for stays:
World of Hyatt members earn 5x points per dollar spent at Hyatts
Elite members receive further bonuses — Discoverists earn an extra 0.5x points per dollar spent, Explorists earn an extra 1.0x points per dollar spent, and Globalists earn an extra 1.5x points per dollar spent
If you pay with the World of Hyatt Credit Card (review) you earn an extra 4x World of Hyatt points per dollar spent
This promotion is especially lucrative for those redeeming points (since you can earn bonus points on award stays), as well as for those who stay a lot at properties that don’t have a high nightly rate (because 1,000-1,250 bonus points per night is a better return if you’re paying $80 per night than if you’re paying $800 per night).

Yes, World of Hyatt’s other promos have ended
It’s worth acknowledging that World of Hyatt has offered some truly phenomenal promotions in recent months, and those did in fact end on February 28, 2021. These include the following:
Since October 1, 2020, World of Hyatt has offered 3x points on all stays, and 4x points on stays at resorts for those with the World of Hyatt Card
Since October 1, 2020, World of Hyatt has offered double elite qualifying nights on all stays towards 2021 status

Bottom line
World of Hyatt has just launched its new global promotion, which is launching just a day after the previous promotion ended. World of Hyatt is offering 2,000-2,500 bonus points after every two qualifying nights, plus the ability to earn a Category 1-4 free night certificate after 10 qualifying nights.
While it’s fantastic to see World of Hyatt introducing a new promotion without any sort of a break, it’s still kind of sad to see World of Hyatt’s previous outrageously generous promotions come to an end, offering everything from up to quadruple points, to free parking, to discounts on award stays.
World of Hyatt leadership deserves a huge round of applause for the ways in which it has engaged members throughout the pandemic. I trust we’ll see some more good promotions in the coming weeks and months, but for the time being I’m just happy to see a new promotion without any sort of a gap.
